Arts & Culture Casting Calls for Sept. 13 to Sept. 19, 2018

The Shelburne Arts Co-opinvites inquiries from local artists who are interested in submitting work for jury as potential working members. All art and craft media are considered.

“Capturing Light & Life,” an exhibit opening Sept. 30, is seeking photograph submissions.

Each contributor may submit up to three photographs, framed with hanging wire on the back. There is a $10 entry fee.

Submissions will be collected on Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the 1739 Bernardston Unitarian Meetinghouse, 49 Church St. in Bernardston. The exhibit will be held at the meetinghouse from Sept. 30 to Nov. 25. Contributors can also drop off their work by appointment by calling 413-330-0807.

Children ages 5 and older, along with their parents or guardians, are invited to participate in the 34th annual “Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration” that will be performed at the Shea Theater in Turners Falls on Dec. 7, 8 and 9.

“Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration” is a family show; cast members are families in reality as well as on stage. The cast includes a third generation of performers.

Rehearsals will be held on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 to 4 p.m. starting Sept. 30 at a home in Greenfield; at the Episcopal Church of Saints James and Andrew from Oct. 14 through Nov. 11; and at the Shea Theater from Nov. 18 to Dec. 2.

Amherst Leisure Services Community Theater will hold auditions for “Peter Pan” from Sept. 14 to 16 at the Bangs Community Center, 70 Boltwood Walk in Amherst.

The play will be performed in January. Auditions are:

The Pioneer Valley Ballet is holding auditions for its 40th annual production of “The Nutcracker” on Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., at 116 Pleasant St., Suite 155, in Easthampton.

Auditions are for children ages 5 to 10. Performances will be held Dec. 7 to Dec. 9 at the Academy of Music.

The Actors Theatre Playhouse of West Chesterfield, N.H., and Brattleboro, Vt., is accepting 10-minute play submissions for its Ten Minute Play Festival in June of 2019.

Ten-minute plays should include only one scene, have minimal scenic requirements, not exceed 10 to 12 pages in length and have two to six characters. Each contributor may submit up to two plays. Plays that have been produced previously are welcome, provided there are no encumbrances on them.

Scripts will be accepted through email at tenplays19@gmail.com until Sept. 30. Eight to 10 winners and alternates will be announced to all participants by early December.

No monetary prizes are awarded. Winners receive production of their play in the festival and multiple complimentary tickets.


Eggtooth Productions is seeking proposals from artists for its 2019 Radical Interconnectedness Festival.

The production company invites stories that engage issues of race, age, gender, religion, economic class and other aspects of cultural identity that have been suppressed. A wide range of artistic expression will be considered such as music, dance, theatrical, visual, immersive and installation.

Commission is $500. Eggtooth will supply the venue, audience and promotions.
