The Franklin County Community Chorus is welcoming new singers for the second half of its sixth season. Under the direction of Paul J. Calcari, the chorus sings a wide variety of music including classical, folk, jazz, patriotic and light rock.

Rehearsals for the spring season begin Sunday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Guiding Star Grange, 401 Chapman St. in Greenfield. Interested singers can learn more by visiting, or by contacting Calcari by phone at 413-775-9384 or by email at


The Monson Arts Council is accepting applications to participate in its talent competition, called Western Mass Performs.

The show, which will be held Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. in Monson’s Memorial Hall, will offer prizes totaling $1,000. The best 20 entrants in the auditions, to be held Jan. 25 and 26 also in Memorial Hall, will be included in the show.

The judges will be Brian Hale, director of the Bing Arts Center in Springfield; Rebecca Johnson, producer and board member for Exit 7 Theater in Ludlow; and Kim Starsiak, owner and instructor at All-Stars Dance Center in Westfield.
