ORANGE — A woman was transported to the hospital by helicopter after her pickup struck a utility pole on Daniel Shays Highway early Friday morning.

The accident happened at 4:20 a.m. when the operator lost control and crossed over the opposite lane, according to Orange police Sgt. James Sullivan.

“She went onto private property owned by the Crimson Acres horse farm and hit the pole and struck a bunch of their fence,” Sullivan said.

He said the operator was the only person in the vehicle and was transported by ambulance to Athol Hospital. She was airlifted to another hospital, but Sullivan said he was unsure which.

He declined to release the driver’s name.

The Orange police and fire departments and Athol police responded to the accident.
