SHELBURNE — A three-vehicle crash on Route 2 Friday afternoon left one person dead and led to the arrest of another on drunken driving, vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges.

The crash claimed the life of 51-year-old Sarah Sessions of Heath.

According to state police, Sessions was driving west on the Mohawk Trail when her 2004 Grand Am was rear-ended by a 1994 Nissan Altima driven by 20-year-old Wyatt Pease of Buckland, with Sessions’ car then pushed into the path of an eastbound minivan. The minivan then struck Sessions’ car in the passenger’s side.

Police say Pease fled and was arrested later, apparently uninjured in the crash.

Sessions was pronounced dead at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

Pease faces charges of motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, operating under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, speeding and following too closely. Pease was held on $5,000 bail pending his arraignment in Greenfield District Court today.

The heavily-damaged minivan was driven by a 64-year-old woman from Shelburne, who was also taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, according to state police. Her name was not released by state police due to an agency policy.

State police and Shelburne Fire and EMS responded to the scene. The Massachusetts state police collision analysis and reconstruction, crime scene services section, Shelburne police troopers and Buckland police are investigating the incident.
