Tomorrow is Holocaust Remembrance dayThursday, April 8, 2021 is Holocaust Remembrance Day and I want to commemorate the dead and salute with love and pride all those men, women and the one and a half million children who perished so brutally in the Holocaust. My father, Gaston Joyeux, is one of these. Captured at the Battle of France in June 1940, he spent five years in slave labor camps until liberated from Auschwitz III in 1945.
“First They Came for the Jews, by Pastor Niemuller
First they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.”
