SHELBURNE — Apex Orchards is gearing up to celebrate the peach harvest, tasty local fruit and the orchard itself with its Peach Festival.
The sixth annual event will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, and Sunday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.
The first Peach Festival took place in 2016, after Apex opened its new farm store. Since then, it has been held every summer, save for 2020 following the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Apex Orchards Assistant Manager Jacob Fleron.
Attractions will include lawn games, peach sampling and peach pies, Fleron said. Food and beverages will be provided by Caravan Kitchen and Hitchcock Brewing Co. There will also be a peach recipe contest overseen by the farm store’s owner, Tim Smith, and guest judges.
While the weekend’s live music lineup isn’t fully confirmed yet, Fleron said Mackie Gene Spear will perform. He said Apex Orchards is in contact with other potential performers, including jazz musicians and family-friendly acts.
Fleron estimates roughly 1,500 people visited the farm store during the weekend of the 2021 Peach Festival, and he expects a similar turnout this summer.
When asked if the festival is the highlight of Apex Orchards’ year, Fleron replied, “It certainly is the highlight of our peach season. We love doing pick-your-own-apples up here. As the seasons change, we have many highlights.”
