DEERFIELD — For the first time in six years, Historic Deerfield and the Antique Dealers’ Association of America are bringing the annual antiques show back to Deerfield.
The show will take place in Deerfield Academy’s Hale Family Gym on Saturday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature nearly 40 antique dealers with art, antiques and designs from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Alongside the show, Historic Deerfield will offer special programs during the weekend, with chances to explore the newly restored Barnard Tavern and other tours.
Tickets to the antique show are $18, with each ticket granting two-day access to the show and one day of access to Historic Deerfield. Tickets are available on Historic Deerfield’s website at historic-deerfield.org/events/antiques.
“Our heart was always set on coming back to Historic Deerfield and Deerfield Academy, and we’re delighted to be back,” said Antique Dealers’ Association of America Executive Director Judy Loto.
She said the show brings the nonprofit and commercial sides of history together.
“The partnership with Historic Deerfield is one we really value. … Everything about it works great and we hope it supports Historic Deerfield.”
The 39 dealers, which Loto said are “the best in their field,” will bring antiques ranging from paintings, furniture, jewelry, metalware, ceramics and everything in between from nearly three centuries of history.
“You name it, we’ve got it,” Loto said, noting that dealers are coming from around the United States, as well as a few from outside the country. “It really is quite an array and they’re all things that have a story to tell.”
There will be items for hardcore collectors who know exactly what they want, as well as items for folks looking to get into collecting or looking to add a special item to their homes.
The goal, Loto said, is to provide folks with a chance to build “connections between the past and present” through these antiques.
“I think there’s a really wonderful opportunity to look at interior design, and find objects that speak to you and create special spaces,” Loto said. “This is a great way to do that.”
Special programming kicks off before the antiques show with tours of Barnard Tavern from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Historic Deerfield staff will be available to answer questions. Tours of the tavern are included with admission, however, advance registration is required.
Also on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., Historic Deerfield President Emeritus Philip Zea will show off the museum’s collection of early American powder horns.
On Sunday morning, Historic Deerfield curators Amanda Lange and Dan Sousa will present an up-close study of the museum’s English ceramics. Both of these events carry an admission fee of $65, which also includes admission to the antiques show. Registration can be found on the same page where antiques show tickets can be purchased.
