GREENFIELD — It appears twin sisters from the area are in the process of purchasing Adams Donut Shop on Federal Street and will be reopening the local landmark some time in the near future.

The women, Sidra Baranoski and Sabra Billings Dickinson, wrote in a message on Adams Donut Shop’s Facebook page Saturday night saying, “We’d like to introduce ourselves as the future owners of Adams Donut Shop. We are twin sisters who have lived in Franklin County for almost our entire lives.”

They continued, “Between the two of us we have a wide variety of experience that includes logistics, operations management, nonprofit administration and project management — among other things! But we have always had a passion for creating delicious, fun, sweet treats for our families and friends, and we are incredibly excited to embark on the adventure of reopening and invigorating the local treasure that is Adams Donut Shop.”

Dickinson, who was reached by the reporter through Facebook Messenger Sunday, said they have not yet completed the purchase, but are in the end stages. She added that it has been a challenge as both currently work “day jobs,” and have to work out an agreement to not only buy the business, but also a building lease.

“Carrie (Brown, the current owner) has shown great support throughout the process and we will be working with her closely to learn everything we need to ensuring we can continue to provide the doughnuts that have made Adams famous,” she said. “We are hoping to be able to jump in full-tilt within a week or so in order to achieve a November grand reopening.”

Baranoski and Dickinson finished their Facebook message by saying they have “some exciting surprises in store.”

Adams closed its doors because of COVID-19 after business on March 21. Brown announced on Facebook shortly after that Adams Donuts would not reopen.

“It is with a very heavy heart and a lot of consideration, under these circumstances, Adams Donuts will be closing its doors,” the post read. “For over 50 years we have had loyal patrons and regular customers, who we would like to thank for always coming in, and we are very sorry that we could not make this work to keep our doors open.”

Brown could not be reached for comment by press time on Sunday.

By noontime on Sunday, the post by Baranoski and Dickinson sharing their news had more than 100 comments, many asking them to consider bringing back certain types of doughnuts.
