GREENFIELD — Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident involving a local livery company that resulted in power outages and the closure of a portion of Silver Street near Eastern Avenue late Tuesday morning.

According to Police Chief Robert Haigh Jr., there were no passengers in the American Knight Transportation vehicle and no injuries to the driver were reported. Haigh said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

“An SUV went through a (utility) pole and closed down the road for a while,” he said.

A post on the Police Department’s Facebook page states that due to downed power lines in the area, there were reported power outages. Silver Street from Federal Street to High Street was closed for a few hours while crews cleaned up the area.

As of about 2:30 p.m., police officers were still on scene directing traffic at the intersection of High Street and Silver Street, where a traffic light remained out. Earlier in the afternoon, as many as 120 customers were without power, according to an Eversource outage map.

Haigh said the entire utility pole — one of the largest on the street — would need to be replaced.
