ORANGE – The town’s recently resigned police chief, it turns out, left for the chief’s job in neighboring Athol.

Craig Lundgren was sworn in by Athol Town Clerk Nancy Burnham at a first responders appreciation program Tuesday in Athol.

Lundgren had been working part-time as chief in Athol since November when the towns then chief resigned. He resigned from Orange last month, but didn’t publicly announce he was switching departments until recently.

“I’m very appreciative of this new opportunity,” Lundgren said. “I’ve been helping Athol out since November and have gotten to know the officers, dispatch and command staff, and have found them all to be dedicated to serving their town and making their police department better. My main goal at this point is to help prepare in-house candidates for advancement.”
