ORANGE — Athol Credit Union has planned a ribbon-cutting on Saturday to celebrate the opening of its drive-up ATM at the former Bank of America branch on 85 East Main St.

In celebration of the new automated branch, ACU asks for donations of non-perishable foods for the Orange Food Pantry. The celebration is slated to begin at 9 a.m. New or like-new children’s coats and jackets will also be accepted by the Athol Salvation Army. Everyone making a donation will get their name entered into a drawing to win a card gift to a local business.

The Athol Salvation Army will be on hand with a mobile canteen to provide hot chocolate and coffee. ACU plans to provide doughnuts. ACU certified financial counselors will be on hand to demonstrate the ATM.

According to ACU, installing 24/7 ATM access is the first phase in bringing affordable financial products and services to Orange. The next phase will provide member services specialists on a limited basis to establish member accounts. The schedule will be: Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, available mid-February.

The third phase will offer full banking services, on a limited lobby schedule, planned for mid-March.

According to ACU, this state-of-the-art ATM is capable of accepting real-time cash and check deposits for individuals and businesses. There is no fee for ACU members to use the ATM.

Orange had been without an ATM since TD Bank closed its at 2156 Main St. on Nov. 10.
