WHATELY — The 5J Creamee and Pasiecnik Farmstand, a longstanding summer destination for ice cream and locally grown produce on River Road, has been listed for sale, one year after the original owner’s daughters took over operations.

Coldwell Banker Community Realtors listed the 32-acre lot for sale last week. The farm stand was started by James Pasiecnik, who also purchased the family potato farm from his father in 2000, according to his obituary. Following his death in January 2022, his three daughters, Justine, Joanna and Jil Pasiecnik, came together to run the family business through that spring and summer.

Attempts to reach the sisters were unsuccessful.

The farm stand and 5J Creamee — named for the five members of the family: James, Janice, Justine, Jil and Joanna Pasiecnik — was started in the late 1990s as a “glorified wagon” where the family sold strawberries before converting the barn into a farm stand in 2003, Jil Pasiecnik said in an interview last year.

“Our father passed away suddenly in January and then it was up to us with what to do with it. We were handed the keys to the car,” she said in May 2022. “The thought of selling something that we all worked so hard on … it was like, ‘OK, this is something we’re doing because it’s important to keep it in our family and keep it alive.’”

The property offers the road-facing farm and ice cream stand, as well as several barns, which could provide an opportunity to start or expand a business, as well as create a subdivision or a farm estate, according to Coldwell Banker real estate agent Don Mailloux’s description of the property.
