GREENFIELD — Two Springfield men and two Vermont women were arrested Monday morning on drug charges after the vehicle they were in on Interstate 91 was stopped for violations.
Ismael D. Garcia and Christopher Orellano, both 25 and of Springfield, and Kimberly Lawrence, 41, of Brownington, Vt., and Kitty L. Godin, 38, of Derby, Vt., were in a 2007 Ford 500 sedan when they were stopped by Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Leslie north of Exit 27 in Greenfield at roughly 3 a.m., according to a State Police press release.
An investigation revealed the four were in possession of approximately 63 grams of cocaine, according to the release. They were taken into custody for the drug offenses and transported to the State Police barracks in Shelburne Falls for booking. Leslie was assisted by officers with the Greenfield Police Department, as well as Capt. Scott Waldron of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and his K-9 partner, Uno.
Garcia, Lawrence and Godin were arraigned in Greenfield District Court later on Monday.
Garcia faces charges of trafficking in cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug law and furnishing a false name/Social Security number to law enforcement, according to court documents. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Orellano faces charges of trafficking in cocaine and conspiracy to violate drug law. Godin faces charges of trafficking in cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug law, and allowing unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Lawrence, who was operating the vehicle when it was stopped, is accused of trafficking cocaine, conspiracy to violate drug law, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and a missing registration sticker.
Garcia was held without bail because he already had a default warrant issued for his arrest. The other three were held on $50,000 bail each, according to court documents.
Lawrence and Godin have pretrial conferences set for Aug. 1. Garcia has one slated for Aug. 2.
