ORANGE — Three men were arrested on Monday morning after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase into Belchertown after stabbing a man they know on North Main Street.

Orange Police Chief James Sullivan said his department was dispatched to North Main Street at 3:44 a.m. for a reported stabbing. He said three suspects fled when police arrived and one officer pursued them while another tended to the victim, who was reportedly treated and released from Athol Hospital.

According to Sullivan, the chase ended when the vehicle the suspects were in failed to negotiate a turn, struck a guardrail and came to a stop in a field on George Hannum Street in Belchertown. The suspects fled. Two were located by a State Police K-9 while Belchertown Police officers found the third. A post on the Orange Police Department’s Facebook page reported the pursuit passed through New Salem, Shutesbury and Pelham.

Sullivan said the suspects “were throwing stuff,” believed to be construction screws, at his officer’s cruiser during the pursuit. He said an officer found a box of construction screws in the vehicle after the chase had ended.

The three men are expected to be arraigned in Orange District Court.

There are no more suspects at this time. Anyone who witnessed something in the area of North Main Street and Oxbow and Cross roads at around 4 a.m. is asked to call the Orange Police Department at 978-544-2129.
