GREENFIELD — The longtime flower shop on High Street will soon reopen, thanks to two budding entrepreneurs.

Michele Pratt and Annette McLean purchased Sigda Flowers and Gifts on Jan. 1, and plan to rebrand as Country Garden Florals and Gifts when the shop opens again on Wednesday.

“We hope to keep most, if not all, of our clientele,” Pratt said Monday. “We have already reached out and had a great response from many (past customers).”

The women were floral designers at Sigda, which closed abruptly last month. Jaime and Heather Reloj have put the real estate at 284 High St. on the market. The Relojs purchased the business from the shop’s longtime owner, Rick Sigda, whose parents, Ted and Claire, opened it in 1948.

Pratt and McLean worked as floral designers at Sigda and decided to take the leap when they learned they would be out of jobs and realized they had the same aspirations.

“What we envisioned was almost exact to each other,” McLean said.

The two plan to bring in extra business by offering classes in floral design, arrangements and wreath-making. They also hope to sell items made by local artisans, who might also instruct workshops at the store.

Pratt said she has been a floral designer for about 35 years, and worked for Sigda for 16. McLean said she earned an associate’s degree in floriculture in 1985 and has worked for different shops, including in New Hampshire, ever since. She had been at Sigda for two years.

The new owners are now preparing for Valentine’s Day, which is regarded as the Super Bowl of the floral industry.

“We wanted to be open in time to get open and settled and have people know we’re here before we dive right into that big holiday,” Pratt said.

The shop will open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Pratt and McLean can be reached at 413-773-5468 and cflowersandgifts@gmail.com. The website, which is not yet live, will be countrygardenfloralsandgifts.com.

The business will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays, and by appointment on Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays.
