ORANGE — The Orange Historical Society is gearing up for the return of the formerly annual summer event “Music on the Porch” for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The free outdoor event is slated for 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6, at the 41 North Main St. museum. It will include a performance by Legacy, a local jazz band consisting of singer Linda Piragis and instrumentalists Marty Picard, Terry Parker Sr. and Marc Erwin. Light refreshments will be available.
“It’s a fun little gig. I tell a few jokes here and there, and they usually have a pretty good crowd,” Picard said. “We’re looking forward to it, we really are. It’s going to be nice to get back and give them some music.”
Picard said Legacy’s repertoire includes pieces dating to the 1940s.
Kathryn Schiappa, president of the Historical Society, said she is thrilled to have one of the public’s favorite local bands performing for the first “Music on the Porch” since the pandemic started.
“It’s great to be back,” she said. “A lot of us are older and we just love to have music. It just makes you feel good.”
Schiappa also said the 128-year-old Historical Society is celebrating the end of the pandemic with a summer schedule that includes the return of the society’s formerly annual Orange Senior Citizens Club Luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 3, and a first-ever “intriguing Hear & Tell” of “unbelievable true stories” on Friday, Aug. 4, at 7 p.m. The Historical Society also participates in the monthly Third Thursday Street Fairs during the summer, with the next event set for Aug. 17, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The museum is open for tours on summer Sundays from 2 to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Contact Schiappa at 978-544-6814. To register for the Aug. 4 “Hear & Tell,” call Ann Reed at 978-544-3864.
