First search committee meeting Thursday

The superintendent search committee will meet for the first time this week. The group will meet on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Greenfield Community College in the president’s conference room (C201).

The search committee — which consists of faculty, town officials and other residents — will work will the Massachusetts Association of School Committees over the next few months to find finalists for the post. These meetings are open to the public until the time when the screening committee is reviewing applications or interviewing candidates.

The committee is led by School Committee members Daryl Essensa and Francia Wisnewski. School board member John Lunt, who helped find current superintendent Susan Hollins back in 2008, is also a part of the group.

Two Greenfield teachers — Lukas Martin and Ann Valentine, a leader in the local teacher’s union — are also members.

Rounding out the committee are: Kevin Courtney, former Pioneer Valley Regional School District superintendent; Hillary Hoffman, town councilor; Kriste Joy, parent and branch officer at Freedom Credit Union; Russ Kaubris, business manager at Franklin County Technical School; Robert Pura, Greenfield Community College president; and Roxann Wedegartner, chairwoman of the town’s Planning Board.
