St. Joe's grabs opener

[ Originally published on: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 ]

GREENFIELD -- There was no late-inning magic Tuesday night.

St. Joseph's took advantage of early opportunities and Derek Anghilante held the Manny's TV & Appliance offense at bay to help St. Joseph's take control of the best-of-three Tri-County League semfinal series with a 7-3 baseball win at Veterans Memorial Field.

One night after scoring seven times in the sixth inning to beat Teddy Bear Pools, 10-6, in Game 3 of the quarterfinal series, Manny's (18-10) had plenty of opportunities to blow the game wide open early on, as it loaded the bases with nobody out in both the second and third innings. The team managed to score only one run during those threats and St. Joseph's broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fourth with four runs to take the lead for good.
