TURNERS FALLS -- At the superintendent's request, members from the state education department will be visiting the Gill-Montague Regional School District this September to see how much it has improved since it was first declared underperforming three years ago.
''I requested that they come primarily because I want them to see the progress that we have made,'' Superintendent Carl Ladd said Tuesday. ''Then, to come and talk to us about what are the next steps.''
Ladd said the two-town district was first declared ''underperforming'' in 2007, after a district review done by the state. Underperforming districts are also classified as ''level four'' districts.
He said it is unknown whether the review will result in the district moving up or down in the performance ranks.
