TURNERS FALLS -- The $40.7 million renovation of the 73-year-old Gill-Montague Bridge has begun and the busy thoroughfare will be a one-way bridge for the next three to four years, until the work is done, according to Montague Highway Superintendent Thomas Bergeron.
During construction, the bridge will have only one lane open, for access into Turners Falls from Route 2. Outgoing traffic will have to take one of the town's other two bridges over the Connecticut River out of Turners Falls.
Bergeron said the reconstruction will take place on one side at a time.
