Reynold N. Henry

NORTHFIELD -- Lt. Col. Retired, Reynold ''Hank'' N. Henry, 79, of Wanamaker Road, died Friday evening (7-23-10) at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Stroudsburg, Pa. On July 29, 1930, the son of S. Newkirk and Helen May (Wuest) Henry.

Growing up in the Poconos in eastern Pennsylvania, Hank began his education in a four-room schoolhouse. After high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and then soon joined the Air Force. Subsequently, he graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. After serving in Germany and England, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, before going to Thailand as Advisor to the Royal Thai Air Force. Following his return to the states, Hank went to the Pentagon where he served as Chief of the Air Force Depot Maintenance Programs and congressional liaison for the Air Force Budget Office. Hank retired from the Air Force after 27 years with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Following his return to Northfield, he worked 15 years at Northfield Mount Hermon School where he served as business manager. He then worked as a consultant at Greenfield Community College on the building projects.

He spent many years in public service: as town Administrator in Northfield, and serving on several boards and committees, including 12 years on the finance committee. He was an active member of the Northfield Kiwanis, a trustee of the Greenfield Co-Op Bank for many years and drove cancer patients for treatments and delivered Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his son, Robert and his wife, Sherri of Mashpee; his stepdaughter, Jessica Lewerenz of Granby, and his sister, Eileen Guenther and her husband, Leonard, of Erie, Pa. He also leaves his grandchildren Tiffany and T.J. of Erving, and step-grandchildren, Kathryn Campbell of Granby, Jeremy Smith, Justin and Nicole Stultz of Cape Cod, and a great-stepgrandson, Timothy Smith of Cape Cod.

He was predeceased by his first wife Phebe (Stacy) and a son Larry, and his brother Carl.

Funeral services will be Saturday (7-31-10) at 10 a.m. at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 147 Main St., Northfield. The Rev. Lloyd Parrill, Pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in West Northfield Cemetery, with full military honors.

Calling hours will be Friday (7-30-10) from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield.
