CHARLEMONT -- For the second time in two years, the co-owners of the Charlemont Inn are trying to get a mortgage loan for the landmark building. If they fail, the inn will be put up for auction by the descendents of a private mortgage-holder who made it possible for Linda Shimandle and Charlotte Dewey to acquire the inn in 1993.Tonight's New Year's Eve celebration at the 222-year-old inn could be its last, because the estate holders are to schedule an auction date over the next few days. Dewey said she and Shimandle will have until the auction date to either raise money or obtain a new mortgage loan. But if they don't, they could lose the inn.
