MONTAGUE -- Town Meeting took the first steps toward bringing a state-of-the-art skate park to town by abandoning Williams Way, which will one day be home to the park. The park won't be open for another two to three years, but without Tuesday's votes, the Skate Park Committee would have not have been able to start the process, committee member Ellen Spring told town meeting members.
Besides abandoning Williams Way, which connects First and Second streets, Town Meeting agreed to pay abutter Tim DeChristopher $1,000 from free cash in exchange for him agreeing to relinquish his right to pursue damages and allowed the town to reduce the size of the easement DeChristopher has.
After Tuesday's votes, the Skate Park Committee will join with the town's Parks and Recreation Department in applying for community development money for a multi-phase revamp of Unity Park.
