GREENFIELD -- Although there were many spinouts and a few vehicle crashes caused by the major winter storm that swept through the Pioneer Valley on Wednesday, very little damage was done by the storm.

According to police in Deerfield, two people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries following an early morning crash on River Road.

Deerfield Police Chief Michael Wozniakewicz said that, shortly after 4:30 a.m., Dennis Welcome, 44, of Wildwood Avenue, Greenfield, was headed south on River Road when his 2001 Pontiac lost traction and slid into a northbound 2006 Toyota being driven by Linda Mansfield, 50, of Bradford Drive, Greenfield.

'No one was cited. It was a matter of road conditions,' he said.

Both of the drivers were taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, where they were treated and released.
