NORTHFIELD -- Eugene E. Closson, 81, of 727 Millers Falls Road, died Monday morning (11-23-09) at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Erving on Oct. 2, 1928, the son of William and Marjorie (Tandy) Closson. He was a graduate of Greenfield High School in 1945.
He then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served in Alaska and Florida until 1954.
He married the former Mildred Clough on Feb. 15, 1953. Mildred predeceased him in 1981.
He then married the former Lillian (Howe) Stone on Dec. 3, 1983.
Eugene worked for International Paper in Millers Falls for 45 years.
He was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Northfield.
He was an avid beekeeper and honey producer. He was a handyman extraordinaire, loved sports and was loyal supporter of the Northfield Country Players.
Eugene is survived by his wife Lillian of 25 years; a daughter, Jeanne Closson of Northfield; a sister, Willian Brown of Rowe; three stepsons: Craig Stone and his wife Donna of Newfane, Vt., Brian Stone and his wife Gail of Wardsboro, Vt., and Keith Stone and his wife Susan of Esperance, N.Y.; six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his dog, Honey.
Funeral services will be Monday (11-30-09) at 11 a.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield. The Rev. Lloyd Parrill, pastor of the Trinitarian Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in West Northfield Cemetery, Northfield.
There will be a calling hour on Monday morning (11-30-09) from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
