GREENFIELD -- Contractors were busy this week replacing the roof on Franklin County Fairground's 110-year old Roundhouse with fire-retardant clear cedar shakes.
'We're so excited,' said Linda Slattery, Roundhouse Restoration Project coordinator. 'This building is very important to Greenfield and Franklin County.'
Thayer Street Associates Inc. of South Deerfield is replacing the roof, which will end up costing about $100,000.
The entire project will cost more than $200,000 before it's over, said Slattery.
The restoration has included repairs to the foundation and beams, replacing siding around the building and some interior work. The windows will also be replaced and the cupola will be repaired.
