EAST WINDSOR, Conn. -- Alice Kniat, 78, of East Windsor, and a former longtime resident of Enfield, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009.
Born in Montague, Mass., on May 22, 1931, Alice was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Mary (Bushey) Rockwell.
Alice was a communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Enfield, where she was also employed as its housekeeper for many years. She served the church as a Eucharistic Minister and was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Residence in Enfield.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening and the UConn Women's basketball team.
Alice is survived by her two brothers, James B. Rockwell of Bernardston, Mass., and his fiance Bernadette Champagne of Turners Falls, Mass., and Frank J. Rockwell of Northfield, Mass.; several nieces and nephews, as well as her dear friends, Mary and Frank Ryan of Enfield and Maryann Lewandowski of Enfield.
Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard; her two sisters, Shirley Sicard and Guyla Rodovich and her brother, Doyle Rockwell.
A funeral procession will form at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, from the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, to leave for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Bernard's Church, Enfield. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Montague, Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alice's memory may be made to St. Bernard Church, 436 Hazard Ave., or to Home & Community Hospice Program, P.O. Box 1199, both in Enfield, CT 06082.
