ERVING -- Barbara A. Bumpus, 65, of 13 East Prospect St., died Thursday evening, Oct. 29, 2009, at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield, following an illness.
Born on Nov. 26, 1943 in Mattapoisett, she was a daughter of Edward and Mary (Oliviera) Bumpus.
Barbara was a co-owner with Norma Charbonneau of the Box Car Restaurant in Erving for 20 years. She previously had been an International Garment Worker as a presser of ladies garments for 14 years, as well as a seasonal cranberry picker. Since the age of 16, Barbara had been involved in the restaurant business from dishwashing, cleaning, cooking, to ownership. Barbara moved to Erving in 1983.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Bumpus of Lincoln, Maine; a sister, Ethel Oliviera of Mattapoisett; her partner and longtime companion, Norma Charbonneau of Erving; a goddaughter, Barbara Jean Arsenault; a nephew, Robert, and nieces, Terri, Sharon, Lori, and Holly.
Barbara was predeceased by a sister, Mary Pittley, and a niece, Robi.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m., at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.
Funeral services and interment in Erving Center Cemetery will be private.
