Just Plain Neighbors: Business group announces Bridge of Flowers mini grant winners

[ Originally published on: Friday, October 30, 2009 ]

Beginning this column with a list isn't usual, but this list of awards from the Shelburne Falls Area Business Association's Bridge of Flower's Race Mini Grants is good news to 12 recipients.

''The 31st annual SFABA Bridge of Flowers race was a huge success in August. To have these funds to donate to these community organizations is such an honor for me, as it represents the work of literally scores of volunteers, as well as many sponsors (most especially the Bank of Western Massachusetts) that helped make it all happen,'' said Mike McCusker, who chaired the event.

The race earned $3,000.

Here's the list of mini-grants: In Shelburne Falls: Ballet Renvers, Shelburne Senior Center, Piti Theatre Company and the Bridge of Flowers Committee; Greenfield: DIAL/SELF; Charlemont: Mohawk Trail Concerts and the Academy at Charlemont; Heath: Heath Elementary School, Garden Shed Project and, also, Heath Elementary Drama Program; Whately: Peer Mediators; Buckland: Buckland Historical Society; and Shelburne Center: Shelburne Free Public Library.

I'm impressed that the awards covered much more area than just Shelburne Falls. They were given out on Wednesday morning at the bank, where refreshments were served.
