NORTHFIELD -- Proving the old football adage that it's not how long you have the ball, but rather what you do with it when you have it, Pioneer Valley Regional School shrugged off a driving rainstorm Saturday to pile up a 48-28 independent victory over Pittsfield High School.
The Panthers (6-1) needed just two plays and 35 seconds to record their first touchdown, leading 32-6 at halftime and 48-6 very early in the third quarter, thanks to three scores apiece from Shane Deming and Malachi Roman.
''We just seemed to be turning on all cylinders. Our offensive line in particular has been doing a helluva job,'' said Pioneer coach Mike Duprey. ''We've worked a lot on the mental part of this game. You can't worry about whether it's wet, dry, cold or hot. You've just gotta go out and play.''
