Greenfield and Gill-Montague Regional School District are talking about combining special education programs that serve students ages 18 to 22 and are looking at housing the consolidated program in Turners Falls.
Both currently have separate programs for these students that provides them with skills to transition into the workforce and community as adults.
Nadine Ekstrom, Gill-Montague director of special education and student services, said its program currently has six students, and if Greenfield were to join, it could grow to 10.
Greenfield interim Superintendent Susan Hollins and Ekstrom foresee the consolidation happening around November and said both school departments could save money. The schools are now just waiting for an agreement to be signed.
