Edward J. Bezio Jr.

ERVING -- Edward J. Bezio Jr., 93, of 27 Maple St., died on Thursday morning, Oct. 15, 2009, at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol, following an illness.

Born on Sept. 20, 1916 in Erving, he was a son of Edward J. Bezio Sr. and Georgiana (LaCrosse) and grew up in Erving.

Ed married the former Corina B. Eddy in 1948, and they had been devoted to each other for 61 years.

A veteran of World War II, Ed enlisted on March 14, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army in Central Europe before his honorable discharge on Jan. 21, 1946. He received a Good Conduct medal, an American Theatre Campaign ribbon, a European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign ribbon and a Victory medal.

Ed worked at the former Chase Machine Co. in Orange for 10 years, retiring in 1971, and previously had worked at the Millers Falls Paper Co. and was a self-employed logger and woodsman.

An avid outdoorsman, Ed especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Corina Bezio of Erving; a son, Francis Bezio of Erving; his daughters, Irene Sanderson and Linda Zilinski and her husband Paul Sr., all of Erving, and Mary LaPerriere and her husband Fran of Palm Coast, Fla.; grandchildren, Darlene Nutter, Paul Zilinski Jr., Neil Zilinski, Scott Zelinski, Amy Crafts, Richard Nebelski and Jimmy Nebelski; many great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nephews and nieces.

Ed was predeceased by a brother, Leon Bezio; sisters, Hazel Worth, May Austin and Laura Bourbeau, as well as a grandson, Christopher Bezio.

Visitation will be on Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, 2009. from 10 to 11 at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

Funeral services will be held at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, at 11 a.m. with Deacon Joe Bucci of St. Mary's Church in Orange officiating. Interment will follow in Erving Center Cemetery.
