Larry A. Parker

CHARLEMONT -- Larry A. Parker, 60, of Mohawk Trailer Park, died Monday (10-5-09) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield following a logging accident in Charlemont.

He was born in Greenfield, April 3, 1949, the son of Floyd A. and Lurena M. (Purinton) Parker. He was a graduate of the former Charlemont High School.

Parker was a self-employed logger.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed as well playing cards and crossword puzzles.

He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW Post 8503 and the Western Mass. Rod and Gun Club, all in Shelburne Falls.

Survivors, besides his parents of Buckland, include his wife, the former Suzanne Shippee of Buckland; his son, Kevin Greenough of Shelburne Falls; his brother Ronnie Parker and his fiancée June Heideman of Ashfield; his sister, Sandy Herzig and husband James of Colrain; his dear and very close friend, Beverly Salmi of Charlemont, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his ''little dog'' Sport.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Shannon Parker in 1992, and his son, Kelly Greenough, in 1997.

A gathering for family and friends will be held Sunday, Oct. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls. A brief celebration of life service will be held at 4 at the funeral home.
