TURNERS FALLS -- Stella F. (Parda) Pelis, 92, of Turnpike Road, Park Villa Apts., died Sunday (10-4-09) at Poet's Seat Health Care Center in Greenfield.
She was born in Winchester, N.H., on Dec. 16, 1916, the daughter of Stanley and Eleanor (Nosek) Parda. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1935 and had been a resident of Greenfield most of her life prior to moving to Turners Falls in 1989.
Stella was a homemaker. Also, she was a cook at various educational institutions including Deerfield Academy and Smith College.
She was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church in Greenfield and was a member of Sacred Heart Guild. Currently, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.
Stella enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and dancing.
Her husband, Frank H. Pelis Sr., predeceased her on March 28, 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Deacon Richard F. Pelis and his wife Diane of Longmont, Colo., and Frank H. Pelis Jr. and his wife Kerry of Burnham, Maine; a daughter, Arlene F. Fortin and her husband Peter of Bernardston; three brothers, Chester Parda of South Deerfield, Stanley Parda of Bernardston and Donald Parda of Gill; seven grandchildren, Frank, Kirk, Michael and Paul Pelis, Brenna Morgan, Wendy Miller and Kerry Wyman; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jamie Pelis, Reid and Finley Morgan, Troy Miller, Justin, Jordan and Jocelyn Wyman, and several nieces and nephews. Her longtime companion was Jerry De Barge.
She was predeceased by a brother, Edward Parda, and a sister, Gladys Dejnak.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church with the Rev. Charles J. DiMascola, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in Greenfield.
A calling hour will be held Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square.
