Gladys G. Bird

GREENFIELD -- Gladys G. (Powers) Bird, 98, a resident of Poet's Seat Health Care Center, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at the facility.

Gladys was born in Granville, Vt., on Oct. 13, 1910, the daughter of Henry and Ella (Baslow) Powers.

She had been employed at one time as a cook for a nursing home, as well as a restaurant in Shelburne Falls.

Gladys was a member of the Methodist Church in Shelburne Falls for a number of years and also served with the church Women's Club.

Her interests included flowers, gardening and handicrafts.

Survivors include her son, Brian D. Bird and his wife Bev of Greenfield; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Darrell A. Bird, predeceased her in 2002, as well as her son, Martin T. Bird in 1982 and a brother, Martin T. Powers in 1950.

A graveside service will take place Friday at 2 p.m. in West Branch Cemetery, Colrain.

There are no calling hours.
