GREENFIELD -- George M. Hubbard, 80, of 303 Chapman St., died unexpectedly Saturday evening (9-26-09) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
He was born in Sunderland, the son of Robert D. and Elizabeth (Mathieson) Hubbard, on July 16, 1929. He was educated in the Sunderland school and in early years he worked at Oxford Pickle Co. in South Deerfield.
In 1965, he went to work at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for the Building and Grounds Dept., retiring in the early '90s.
He was a member of the Greenfield Lodge of Moose, Greenfield American Legion and a former member of the South Deerfield Polish American Citizens Club.
George was a coin collector, enjoyed gardening and liked to ride his bicycle.
He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Adkins of South Deerfield, nieces and nephews, six grandnieces and grandnephews.
George was predeceased by three brothers, Robert Hubbard, Donald Hubbard and Alan Hubbard.
Calling hours at the Wrisley Funeral home, South Deerfield, will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A religious service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Richard Killough officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Riverside Cemetery, Sunderland.
