A rash of as many as six break-ins have occurred this week in the towns of Bernardston, Northfield and Gill, police said.
The break-ins so far have taken place between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., said police. Bernardston Police Chief James Palmeri said that in Bernardston, jewelry, video game systems, televisions and other items totaling around $5,000 were stolen in three separate incidents. Thieves entered a River St. residence Monday, and residences on Martindale Road and Purple Meadow Road Wednesday.
At 11:23 a.m. Wednesday, Gill Police got a call from a woman on West Gill Road who said someone was in her house, said Gill Sgt. Christopher Redmond. When police arrived, the intruder was gone, he said. ''The subject had forced entry into the house by kicking the front door.'' The intruder allegedly took several items from the home, Redmond said, adding that he did not know what was taken.
The woman who had called 911 was in the house while the intruder was there, but did not have any interaction with the person, he said.
