SUNDERLAND -- Two women were struck by a pickup while crossing Route 116 in front of the Squire Village Shopping Plaza around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Sarah Collier, 21, of 279 Amherst Road, Sunderland, and Sondra Bakke, 24, of 248 Amherst Road, Sunderland, were struck by a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, driven by Dennis Farley, 31, of 34 School St., Montague.
Police said that one of the women was carried about 100 feet by the pickup.
The women had exited a bus that was northbound, police said, and were struck while crossing to the southbound side of the road.
A small crowd looked on in shock after the accident.
The crash is still under investigation, police said. A state police accident reconstruction team was assisting in the investigation, police said.
Traffic was stopped in both directions for around four hours, police said.
