ORANGE -- Kenneth Peter Holmes, 38, of 186 Magoon Road, formerly of Turners Falls, died Sunday (8-2-09) at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., as a result of a motorcycle accident in Rumney, N.H.
He was born in Montague on March 13, 1971, the son of Daniel A. and Cynthia J. (Haskins) Holmes. He graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1989. Also, he was a graduate of Greenfield Community College and received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Ken was an engineer for Radant Corp. in Stow for seven years. Previously, he was employed by Millitech Inc. in South Deerfield.
He served with the U.S. Marines in Iraq and Turkey during Operation Desert Storm.
Ken enjoyed motorcycling, camping, hiking, kayaking and swimming. He loved carpentry and built his dream home in Orange. As well as being a frequent blood donor, he was also an organ donor.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Daniel J. and Terri Holmes of Greenfield; his mother, Cynthia J. of Chicopee; a son, Kenneth R. of Mocksville, N.C.; a sister, Cheryl A. Holmes and her husband Timothy McKinney of Greenfield; two half-brothers, Matthew D. and Andrew D. Holmes of Texas, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Also, he leaves his fiancée, Christina M. King of Hardwick, and her children, Saoirse and Padraig King, and his close friends, Brian and Scott Barlow of Greenfield, and many other friends.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 1 Kostanski Square, Turners Falls.
A graveside service will be held Aug. 15 at 10 a.m. in Springdale Cemetery in Turners Falls.
