GREENFIELD -- Carol Dian (Olsen) Cloutier, 63, of 266 Wisdom Way, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2009, at The Fisher Home Hospice in Amherst, after over a yearlong battle with colon cancer.
She was born in Monterey, Calif., on Nov. 9, 1945, the daughter of Ralph W. Sr. and Marion L. (Burrows) Olsen. She was raised in Bernardston and graduated from Pioneer Valley Regional School, Class of 1963, as one of the top honor essayists and a member of the National Honor Society. Also a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Class of 1967, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development.
She was briefly employed as a nursery school teacher at Kiddie Care in Turners Falls and then was a Social Worker for the Town of Montague and also the State of Massachusetts. She then became a homemaker while raising her two children.
Carol's interests in life were for the concerns for her children. The diamonds in her life were her granddaughters, Megan and Sarah.
Carol had a passion for book novels and word puzzles, which earned her a place as the Vice President of the first Greenfield Library Association, founded in 1855 by Gov. William Washburn with the most prominent people in Greenfield.
Her husband, Robert, considered her the Coupon Queen, making her a substantial contributor to the household finances.
Carol's love of figure skating allowed her to enjoy the sport always leading up to the Olympics.

Her father, Ralph W. Olsen Sr., predeceased her in 1980 and her mother-in-law, Yvonne L. Cloutier, in 1974.
She leaves behind her loving husband of 41 years, Robert L. Cloutier of Greenfield.
Her two loving sons, Douglas R. Cloutier of Greenfield and Gregory R. Cloutier and his wife Laurie with Carol's two granddaughters, Megan Jo and Sarah Jane of South Windsor, Conn.
Also her mother, Marion L. Olsen and a brother, Ralph W. Olsen Jr. of Bernardston.
A sister, Janice Kay Cobb and her husband, the Rev. David W. Cobb, and their children, Jack and Janna Beth of Absecon, N.J., and Laura Kay Mohr and her husband Frank Mohr III and their children, Lydia and Frank IV of Galloway, N.J.
Also her father-in-law, Leo L. Cloutier and his wife Duane and her son Kevin Miller of Turners Falls and her daughter, Paula Silva and her husband Peter and their three children, Miranda, Maurice and Mya, all of Simpsonville, S.C.
A sister-in-law, Phyllis F. Orr of Schertz, Texas, and her daughter, Tanya Lea of San Antonio, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery in Bernardston.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
