Hopkins nips Panthers

[ Originally published on: Friday, December 18, 2009 ]

Hopkins Academy used a 20-7 advantage in the fourth quarter to post a come-from-behind, 43-41 win over Pioneer Valley Regional School in a Franklin County League girls' basketball game Thursday evening at Reed Memorial Gymnasium in Hadley.

The Panthers held a 34-23 lead heading into the final eight minutes but Hopkins was able to take advantage of a number of turnovers and some solid shooting to come back for the win.

''For some reason we just completely lost our composure at the end,'' Pioneer coach Pete Vearling said, ''and Hopkins got hot shooting, they got some momentum.''

Three players scored 12 points in the win, with Stephanie Delue, Emma Konieczny and Olivia Mathieu each hit a dozen points for the Golden Hawks.
