SOUTH DEERFIELD -- Mary A. (Boron) Haigh of 44 Thayer St., passed away on Sunday morning, Nov. 8, 2009, at the age of 101 in Poet's Seat Health Care Center in Greenfield. She was one of the oldest residents of the facility for many years.
She was born in Chicopee on July 26, 1908, the daughter of Stanley and Louise (Wojnarowicz) Boron. At the age of 9, Mary and her family moved to South Deerfield. She was educated in the Chicopee and Deerfield school systems and she went on to pursue a nursing career. She did private nursing duty in the Connecticut and the New York areas.
Mary was married to Hartley Haigh in Hamden, Conn., where they made their home. He predeceased her in September of 1994.
She is survived by one brother, Raymond Boron of South Deerfield; four sisters, Victoria Jarowey of Hamden, Conn., Helen Cady and Evelyn B. Anton of Palmer and Patricia Zach of Wilmington, Vt. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, John Boron, Stanley Boron Jr. and Frederick Boron, and one sister, Bertha (Boron) Reiss.
At the request of the deceased, there are no calling hours.
A private funeral with burial in Brookside Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wrisley Funeral Home in South Deerfield.
