June E. Damon

BERNARDSTON -- June E. Damon, 71, of 115 Northfield Road, died Saturday (10-24-09) at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield.

She was born in Greenfield on Sept. 24, 1938, the daughter of Douglas A. and Marguerite (Canedy) Barton.

She was a graduate of Greenfield High School where she played field hockey and was a majorette.

She was married on July 14, 1956, in Leyden to Edwin Damon Jr. She worked for many years at Pella Products in Greenfield as the office manager. She was also co-owner of Damon Fencing in Bernardston. She served for many years as town clerk in Leyden. She was a past member of the Leyden PTO, and the Leyden Methodist Church, as well as the Leyden Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club.

She is survived by her husband and one son, Mitchell and his wife Kristin of Leyden; and three daughters, Terrie Edson and her husband Dennis of Northfield, Sherrie Sweeney and her husband Dennis of Clackamus, Ore., and Shelly Damon and her partner Jeffrey Kocot of Whately. She is also survived by four brothers, Gordon Barton and his wife Shirley of Londonderry, N.H., Wendell Barton and his wife, Janice of Bernardston, Elwin Barton and his wife Mary Lou of Leyden, and Craig Barton of Bernardston; and a sister, Irene Baker of Leyden; six grandchildren, Eli and Jacob Edson, Ross and Sean Damon and Alex and Stasi Clarke. And her faithful friend, Barney.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Norman and Ronald.

Funeral services will be Thursday (10-29-09) at 1 p.m. at the United Church of Bernardston, Church Street, Bernardston. The Rev. Raymond Medeiros, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Bernardston.

Calling hours will be Wednesday (10-28-09) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield.
