AMHERST -- Milton H. Streeter, 91, of Amherst and formerly of Bernardston, passed away Sunday (10-25-09) at the Hadley at Elaine Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on Nov. 24, 1917 in Bernardston, he was the son of Harold S. and Ethel (Cairns) Streeter. Milton grew up in Bernardston where his parents started the Bernardston Auto Exchange and Streeter's Store.
Milton was a 1935 graduate of Mt. Hermon School and received his bachelor's at Northeastern University. A mechanical engineer, he was employed by Arthur D. Little in Cambridge until his retirement in 1979.
He married the former Frances Hamilton in 1978.
Milton moved from Sudbury back to this area in 1990. He was a member of the United Church of Bernardston, the Greenfield Rotary Club and the Yankee Motor Club. He enjoyed cars and traveling around the world.
Survivors include his wife Frances; sons, Harold and his fiancée Mary Moran of Sudbury and Robert W. II and his wife Elizabeth of Hudson; daughter, Carol Roberts and her husband Winston of Bluffton, S.C., and his stepdaughter, Catherine Lodge of Amherst. Of his eight siblings, he leaves brothers, Leonard and Ernest, and sisters, Eva Nelson, Mary Merz and Eunice Randall. He also leaves seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara ''Peg'' Newton in 1976; a son, Robert W. Streeter I, as a young child; his brothers, Wendell and Elmore, and sister, Irene Franklin.
Funeral services for Milton will be on Friday (10-30-09) at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Bernardston, officiated by the Rev. Raymond Medeiros. Burial in Center Cemetery, Bernardston, will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the United Church of Bernardston, Center Street, Bernardston, MA 01337.
