Pioneer Valley Regional School made an early-season statement Thursday night. The Panthers locked horns with Hopkins Academy at Messer Gymnasium in a battle that pitted two of the preseason favorites in the Hampshire League. The game featured plenty of physical play and when it ended the Panthers knocked off the Golden Hawks, 71-63. The teams may feature the two tallest rosters in the HL and it led to numerous battles in the low post, many of which led to fouls.
