Bulletin Board: Local harriers way back at States
Frontier Regional School’s Caitlin Burnett finished in 105th place out of 180 runners at the Girls’ Division II State Cross Country Championship at Gardner Municipal Golf Course on Saturday.
Burnett, a sophomore, finished the 2.9-mile race in 19 minutes, 55.22 seconds to place as the top local of three girls who qualified for the event. Greenfield High School eighth-grader Jennifer Silk came in 114th in 20:07.51, and Pioneer Valley Regional School seventh-grader Audrey Corrigan came in 117th in 20:10.28.
Conor O’Brien and Kyle Redmond combined to stop every puck they faced as Northfield Mount Hermon School earned a 2-0 win over Delbarton (N.J.) School in a boys’ prep hockey game Sunday in New Haven, Conn.
Corey Moriarty and Ben Freeman each scored once in the win. Bradley Allen assisted on both goals, while Kevin Dzchevich and Jamie Dorsey each had one helper.
• On Saturday, Northwood (N.Y.) School scored midway through the third period to break a 1-1 tie and take a 2-1 win over NMH at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham.
Freeman scored the lone goal for the Hoggers in the season opener on an assist from Allen. O’Brien and Redmond split time in the NMH net.
Ian Sistare finished with 25 points and five rebounds as defending National Champion NMH opened the boys’ basketball season with a 101-78 victory over Dartmouth College Junior Varsity Saturday at Forslund Gym in Gill.
The Hoggers started the youngest lineup in the history of the program with three juniors and two sophomores. Aaron Falzon finished with 24 points, eight assists and five rebounds, Daquon Ervin added 20 points and five rebounds, AJ Brodeur collected 13 points and eight boards, and Josh Sharma chipped in 6 points and 10 rebounds.
Turners swim coach sought

Frontier 11s win
Rohan Edwards finished with four goals and two assists over the weekend as the Frontier Evil Monkeys edged Conway Crush, 8-5, in a Under-11 indoor soccer game at Allsport in Northampton.
Jake Hanieski, Jake Whitney, Colin Byrnes and Patyon Sladeski each had one goal in the win. Brady Burch finished with two assists, and Cameron Wrisley added one helper. Dylan Martin and Hanieski combined to make 31 saves in the win.
Jacob Smith finished with two goals to lead Franklin County Hockey Association Dillon Chevrolet to a 6-3 win over Wilbraham Twin Meadows in a Greater Springfield League Peewee Division hockey game Sunday at the Olympia in West Springfield.
Jude Lindale, Zach Smith, MacKenna Whiteman and Cameron Rice each had one goal in the win, while Maggie Roche, Steven Parkinson and Tucker Malinowski collected one assist apiece. Riley Drew made 24 saves in the win.
• On Saturday, Jacob Smith scored twice and Roche added one goal but Dillon’s suffered a 4-3 loss to Nonotuck.
Rice and Whiteman each had one assist, and Drew made 19 saves.
Gilmore & Farrell sweeps
Bryce Jordan and Cassidhe Wozniak each scored twice Sunday to lead FCHA Gilmore & Farrell Insurance Warriors to a 5-3 win over Westfield in a GSL Bantam Division hockey game at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.
Ethan LaFleur finished with one goal and one assist and Mason Whiteman added two helpers. Alex Malinowski, Miles Hiler and Jacob Bailey each had one assist. Dalton Rice and Finnegan O’Connor combined on 24 saves.
• On Saturday, Hiler scored twice and assisted on two others as the Warriors knocked off Wilbraham Twin Meadows, 6-1.
Bryce Jordan and Whiteman each had one goal and an assist, while Wozniak and LaFleur collected a goal apiece. Malinowski and Alec Jordan chipped in one helper each. Rice and O’Connor combined to make 14 saves.
Trevor Parkinson made 12 saves Sunday but FCHA suffered a 1-0 loss to Brattleboro in a GSL Squirt Division hockey game in Greenfield.
Hunter Haughey and Cooper Barton each played well in the defensive battle.
• On Saturday, Kyle Barnes scored twice as FCHA edged the Westfield Junior Bombers, 3-1, at Amelia Park Arena.
Aidan Roche added a goal in the win, Chloe Cutting collected one assist, and Parkinson made 10 saves.
