Salmond powers Athol win

Julia Salmond registered four hits and three RBIs Monday as Athol High School picked up an 11-2 Franklin County League softball victory over Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Athol.

Tricia Hazen struck out eight and allowed four hits and one walk in the complete-game victory. The Red Raider starter allowed an RBI double to Mohawk’s Morgan Dodge (two hits) and gave up another run in the fourth on a fielder’s choice by Laura Ward, but got plenty of run support.

The Red Raiders (4-3 overall, 4-2 FCL) scored four times in the bottom of the third to open up a lead and added three more runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Liz Arpide and Tessa Neverett each finished with two hits and two RBIs. Lexi Hamlett added two hits and one RBI, Olivia Smith collected two hits, and Jordan Carey and Kayla Robideau chipped in one hit and one RBI.

Angel Donovan suffered the loss, striking out two and walking five in six innings. Tasha Buntin and Jen Dawson each added one hit for the Warriors, who fell to 0-5.

Frontier 11, Hopkins 4 — Frontier Regional School scored 10 times in the third inning en route to an 11-4 win over Hopkins Academy in FCL softball play Monday in Hadley.

The Red Hawks (4-2, 4-2 FCL) ripped eight hits — four for extra bases — during the third-inning uprising. McKayla Poissant broke the game open with a three-run triple, and Cassidy Stankowski belted an RBI triple of her own.

Poissant finished with three hits and three RBIs, and Aly Hamelin added three hits and two RBIs for the Red Hawks, who banged out 15 hits on the afternoon.

Allie LaClair had two hits and an RBI for the Golden Hawks (2-3, 2-3).

Krystal Enko pitched three hitless innings and struck out seven of the 11 batters she faced to earn the pitching win.

Turners 19, Mahar 2 (41∕2) — Tanisha Sanders blasted three doubles and drove in three runs at the plate and struck out six in the circle as unbeaten Turners Falls High School cruised to a 4 1∕2-inning, 19-2 FCL softball win over Mahar Regional School on Monday night at Bourdeau Fields in Turners Falls.

Mackenzie Salls rapped out three hits and drove in a team-high four runs, while Dakota Smith- Porter collected two singles, a double and two RBIs for the Indians (6-0, 5-0 FCL), who broke loose for eight runs in the first and 10 more in fourth.

Tasha Polana belted a two-run homer in the third for the Senators’ only runs. Tiffany Tenney added a pair of hits.

Pioneer 7, Greenfield 4 — Jackie LaFleur finished with two hits (including a double) and two RBIs to help Pioneer Valley Regional School to a 7-4 FCL softball win over Greenfield High School Monday night at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.

Shea Healy struck out 13 over seven innings to help the Panthers (3-5, 3-3). The senior hurler allowed seven hits and one walk. Healy doubled in the win, while Katlyn Grover added two hits and one RBI.

Tylor Narkewicz and Tori Adams each had two hits and two RBIs for the Green Wave, which dropped to 2-5 on the season. Elise Brown went the distance in the loss, striking out seven, while allowing eight hits and two walks.
