Eleni Balis garnered the winning point for Frontier Regional School in its 3-2 win over Turners Falls High School in Tri-County League girls’ tennis action Wednesday at Bourdeau Complex in Turners Falls.
Balis downed Felicia Craver, 6-2, 6-1, at third singles to clinch the victory for the Red Hawks (1-1 TCL).
Frontier swept the singles matches. Ricky Fields upended Meredith Brown, 6-1, 6-4, at first singles, while Aiden Connelly bested Sara Bradley, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2.
The Indians (0-2) won both doubles matches, as Alysha Wozniak and Kelly Rehorka defeated Alli Zera and A.J. Mensah, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1, and Kortney Thurber and Autumn Patterson upended Crystal Neidbala and Keegan Thompson, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2.
Greenfield 3, Belchertown 2 — Greenfield High School swept the three singles matches Wednesday and remained unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over Belchertown High School in TCL girls’ tennis action in Belchertown.
Courtney Kimball won the decisive point for the Green Wave (3-0) and it didn’t come easily. Kimball fell behind 4-1 in the first set of her match against Julia Tan at No. 3 singles but she battled back to win the set 7-5 and then cruised in the second set with a 6-1 win.
Manisha Malik defeated Vicki Law at first singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Alexis Silk picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kiana Shakeraneh at second singles.
Belchertown won a pair of close doubles matches. Morgan O’Connor and Angela Grabazs knocked off Aliona Olaru and Emily Franklin at No. 1 doubles, dropping the first set 2-6 but coming back to win the second set in a tiebreaker with a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker. Then, because the match had already been decided, they played a tiebreaker to 10 points instead of a third set and the Orioles’ duo won 10-6.
The second doubles match was also tight with Belchertown’s Kristen Pias and Maddie Hamparian besting Greenfield’s Shannon Gibson and Ashley Lowell, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).
Four Rivers 15, NMH 8 — Four Rivers Charter School broke open a close game in the second half to beat Northfield Mount Hermon School, 15-8, in a boys’ ultimate game on Wednesday in Greenfield.
Ben Garbus and Chandler Thomas each scored three goals and Tyler Lapointe added two goals for the Otters, who led 8-6 at halftime.
Lapointe also caused three turnovers, while Sullivan Fraser also played well defensively.
Four Rivers (3-1) hosts the Academy at Charlemont a week from today at 3:30 p.m.
NMH won the junior varsity match, 13-10.
