Bulletin Board: NMH girls roll
Vanessa Udoji poured in a game-high 21 points to lead Northfield Mount Hermon School to a 55-48 victory over Williston-Northampton School in prep girls’ basketball action Wednesday night at Forslund Gymnasium in Gill.
Ruthann Zientek added 9 points and Tayler White contributed 7 for the Hoggers (10-5), who led 29-21 at halftime.
• Elsewhere, Jane Bell netted 14 points to help Stoneleigh-Burnham School defeat Cheshire Academy, 44-35, Wednesday in Cheshire, Conn.
Rosemary Ilang collected 11 points and 20 rebounds, C’Quoya Haughton added 11 points and Ieva Jasponyte chipped in 4 points and 10 boards for the Owls.
Daquon Ervin led five double-digit scorers with 19 points and added four assists and three steals to lead NMH to an 85-75 win over Cushing Academy in a prep boys’ basketball game Wednesday evening in Ashburnham.
A.J. Brodeur collected 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots, Aaron Falzon totaled 13 points, and three assists, Josh Sharma had 12 points, five rebounds, and three blocks, and Jackson Donahue finished with 11 points, five boards and three assists for the Hoggers, who led 54-41 at halftime.
NMH (15-4) travels to the National Prep School Invitational at Rhode Island College during the weekend. NMH plays St. Andrew’s on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., and Tilton School on Sunday at 1:30. Both games will be televised and streamed on the internet.
Conor O’Brien rejected 30 of 31 shots he faced to lead NMH to a 3-1 win over Kimball Union Academy in a prep boys’ hockey game Wednesday in Meriden N.H.
Ben Freeman recorded a power-play goal, Spencer Manchuck had a shorthanded tally and Peter-Owen Hayward also rippled the twine for the Hoggers.
NMH took first place in everything but the boys’ team race during the Mount Institute Ski League on Wednesday at Berkshire East Ski Resort in Charlemont.
The Hoggers A squad captured the girls’ team race with 267 points, followed by Miss Hall’s School (236) and Deerfield Academy (228).
Montague resident Camila Goclowski of NMH-A recorded a final time of 92.70 in his two giant slalom runs to win the girls individual race. Teammates Elisabeth Grondin (93.35) and Tory Dobbin (95.62) were third and fifth, respectively, while DA’s Alaina Chen finished fourth (95.14).
Deerfield won the boys’ team race with 327 points, NMH was second (319) and Eaglebrook School came in third (273).
Nick Bertrand of NMH won the individual title with a two-race total of 88.15, followed by teammate Zach Leeds of Gill (90.22). DA’s Madison Baker of Rowe (90.51), Jack Paul (90.85) and Sam Armstrong (90.99) completed the top five.
Frontier U13 girls win
Natalie Denkiewicz scored four times to power Frontier Red Hawks over Easthampton Eagles, 4-2, in an Under-13 Girls’ Indoor Soccer League game Wednesday night at Allsport Arena in Northampton.
Alicia Hancock added an assist for the Hawks. Marisela Ackerman made 12 saves and Sarah Zoly had nine stops while sharing the goalkeeping duties, and Grace Wesoloski played well defensively.
Frontier U11 boys lose
Brady Burch collected two goals and one assist in the Frontier Evil Monkeys’ 9-4 loss to FC Mass in Under-11 Boys’ Indoor Soccer League play Tuesday night at Allsport Arena in Northampton.
Jake Hanieski added one goal and one assist, while Rohan Edwards also scored for Frontier.
Hanieski made 10 saves and Dylan Martin 16 while sharing the duties in goal.
Alumni nights at Pioneer
Pioneer Valley Regional School will host Alumni nights tonight and Friday.
All Panther alumni receive free admission to tonight’s boys’ basketball game against Mahar Regional School at 7:30, and Friday’s girls basketball game against Smith Academy at 7:30.
