Bulletin Board: Owls use fast start to beat MacDuffie
Rosemary Ilang netted 16 points to power Stoneleigh-Burnham School to a 49-34 win over MacDuffie School in a prep girls’ basketball game Wednesday in Greenfield.
C’Quoya Haugton collected 14 points and seven steals, and Ieva Jasponyte added 6 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for the Owls, who led 28-12 at halftime.
Elsewhere, Jackie Dallier scored 13 points to lead five double-digit scorers as Northfield Mount Hermon School cruised to a 64-19 win over Westminster School in its home opener at Axel Forslund Gymnasium in Gill.
Opaul Morris had 12 points, Kaylah Pinkney chipped in 11 points and Ruthann Zientek and Vanessa Udoji each contributed 10 for the Hoggers (1-1).
Ben Freeman scored two goals and assisted on the other to lead NMH to a 3-2 prep boys’ hockey victory over Brunswick School on Wednesday at Wesleyan University in Middletown Conn.

Dean Roberts from Colrain shot a 71/2-year-old doe weighing in at 121 pounds that he checked in to Gould’s Sugarhouse in Shelburne.
Those two helped bring the Day 3 total to 29 deer, which was just three less than one year ago.
Gould’s once again led the way on the day with 11 checks, while Grrr Gear in Orange finished with eight checks. Bitzer finished with six checks and Sunderland tallied four.

Deerfield sign-ups today
The Deerfield Recreation Department is offering the Berkshire East Ski Program for children and adults who reside in Deerfield and school choice families. Whately residents may also sign up at this time.
A registration session is today from 5 to 6 p.m. at Deerfield Town Hall.
The program runs for five weeks on Wednesdays (Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29, and Feb. 5) from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Options available include Lift ticket only, Lift & Lesson, Lift and Rental or Lift, Lesson & Rental for both skiers and snowboarders. Prices range from $105 to $270, depending on which package is purchased. Children must be at least 8 years old to participate in group lessons.
